Discussion:
Yanks only half as good as us at making electricity:

As usual in all other things, the Yanks are only half as good as the
rest of
the world when it comes to electricity.

Whereas the civilised world (and much of the 3rd-world even) manages to
produce 240volt city power, those useless pissant americans can only
eke out
a pitiful 120volts.

As a consequence of american under-performance in this area, it
generally
takes about 15 minutes of zapping to end the lives of their death-row
inmates, who are, needless to say, almost all black.

It is encouraging, however, to note that some american states,
concerned
about the obvious inhumanity of death by electrocution, have taken a
leaf
out of Adolf Hitler's book and built gas chambers with which to
terminate
the lives of their (black) criminals.
Hooray.

blatant stupidity, is noted.

**Only when configured as multiphase, you sad excuse for a human. Here in
the civilised world, we have 415 Volts available, when we use multiphase
power. Moreover, like the rest of the civilised world, we don't approve of
state-sanctioned murder. We're also signatories to teh Geneva Convention.

It's a meaningless discussison, you moron. In terms of power used,
it's the same. You have twice the voltage, but use half as much
current.

You're an idiot to even begin this debate.

**There's the rub. You idiots have MAJOR problems with Voltage drop (due to
copper losses), when using long cable runs. We, here in the civilised world,
have no such problems. We also need far less (expensive) copper in our power
lines, as a result. US 110VAC receptacles can only manage (theoretically)
1,500 Watts. In reality, barely 1,00 Watts is available from typical US
outlets. Here in Australia, we can consume 2,400 watts from ALL our outlets.
And, of course, with 415VAC available, we can consume vast amounts of energy
easily.

Face it: Your pissy 110VAC just doesn't cut it in the real world.

**Only a complete idiot (IE: American) would be dumb enough to accuse me of
starting the debate. Hint: I didn't.

This is as stupid an argument as the one that erupted in New Zealand
years ago when Wellington tv was given Channel 1 (WNTV1), and Auckland
tv Channel 2 /AKTV2), and some demented Aucklanders started dripping
about the insult to the nation's largest city for not having the "number
1 channel".

AC power is available to most US homes at 240 volts. Heavy current
appliances, like air conditioners and clothes driers, are fed from a 240
volt circuit, low-current house wiring is 120 nominal at 60 Hz.

You are marginally less likely to drop dead from touching the live wire
in an American home than you are in a New Zealand one. Very marginally.

I would feel as safe using an appliance in a home wired to US code as I
would in NZ, Oz, UK or Germany in a house wired to the appropriate local
code. And that's very safe.

Sheesh, of all the seriously dim assertions that get made, an attempt to
make mains voltage into a national virility symbol is well away with the
pixies.

The Americunts won the fight for the occupation of Iraq. They are
badly losing the fight to control Iraq and bring it to the conclusion
they said they would before invading. They can't claim they've won

Most Americans wish they weren't in Iraq. Hardly surprising seeing the
out of control mess there.
Been there and seen this so-called "mess" for yourself? Or do you base your

The 'victory' that the Americunts claim they won in Iraq is a victory
most Americans are beginning to realise they would be better off
without.
Well, occupation is an expensive process. Doesn't mean they didn't kick
the Iraqi's arse, stupid.
So the Iraqis have now got all peaceable and do as the Americunts tell
them, do they?
It sure looks like it is the Americunts who are getting their asses

The Americunts won the fight for the occupation of Iraq. They are
badly losing the fight to control Iraq and bring it to the conclusion
they said they would before invading. They can't claim they've won
before they have achieved their war aims. And they certainly are not
achieving those.
Quite the opposite.
Desposed Saddam
Destroyed any future chance of WMD threats out of that country
Installed a democratic government
When the Americunts withdraw from a peaceful, democratic Iraq they can
clam victory. It sure doesn't look like that day is going to arrive.
It will get there eventually. Despite your wishes.

civilians.
Over 2000 US servicepeople killed tens of thousands wounded... a billion a
month in costs....
How is the USA going to pay for it? With Iraqi oil or Iranian oil?
neither.
Post by Gregory Shearman
They'll have to steal FAR more if they wish to pay off their war debts.
Perhaps they'll steal Australia's uranium next... unless Howard gives it
away for nothing.
LOL. Not only an idiot, a paranoid one as well.........

They're still in Iraq, and Saddam's regime is still wiped out.
Most Americans wish they weren't in Iraq. Hardly surprising seeing the
out of control mess there.

And, soon to come, Iran.
Heh. Iran couldn't even beat Saddam's useless troops, and ones the USA
crushed in weeks
So, 'mission accomplished' means getting bogged down in a quagmire
with no way out, does it.
What 'quagmire'? They could leave any time they want, idiot.
Saddam over thrown, democracy installed. Looks like victory to me. Your
continuing lack of specifics showing otherwise is telling
What democracy?, democracy at the point of is not democracy

At least there are enough Americans who aren't afraid to do what needs

You are even dumber than I thought
So, you acknowledge their military superiority. Thanks for playing.
I've never doubted Americunt conventional military superiority.
Where the Americunts get their butts kicked is in assymetrical
warfare. Like in Vietnam and Iraq.
Then howcome they can't be besed on the battlefield in either
circumstance?
They're still in Iraq, and Saddam's regime is still wiped out.
Let's see what he makes up next...

Maybe you could explain how we got our butts kicked, you retard.

You're typical of YurPeons and other associated pussies. Like a bunch of

It's easy being spectators, innit...

Won Iraq, won Afghanistan, won cold war. Looks like American supremacy
to me. Time for you to get over it, Mr. Cuddles
The 'victory' that the Americunts claim they won in Iraq is a victory
most Americans are beginning to realise they would be better off
without.
Why's that?
Post by Clough

I didn't say Saddam won. I said the Americunts are losing.
LOL. SO they won, and they're still there, and they're not losing any
ground, and they held elections, but they're "losing". Heh. Using this
logic, you could say Hitler won WW2. Great thinking there, Mr. Cuddles.
The Americunts won the fight for the occupation of Iraq. They are
badly losing the fight to control Iraq and bring it to the conclusion
they said they would before invading.
Didn't they just appoint a cabinet?
Post by Clough
They can't claim they've won
before they have achieved their war aims.
Our war aim was to kill or capture Saddam and his kids. We've done that.
We said right from the start we had no interest in nation building.
That means we are there out of the kindness of our hearts.
Post by Clough
And they certainly are not
achieving those.
Quite the opposite.

Excuse me, but the USA went village to village wiping out civilians.

millions were murdered by the USA...

They poisoned their land, they forced them to live underground to avoid the
carpet bombing...

Little kids set on fire by napalm....

Why were the USA doing this??

To defeat "communism"

Let's now move to Iraq...

Why are the USA doing the same thing to Iraq???

To defeat "terrorism"

Little kids with their arms blown off by US bombs...

Phosphorus burning people to death...

US Torture and rape rooms....

As in Vietnam, the US tactics only serve to STRENGTHEN that which they say
they are trying to destroy.

Two conclusions can be drawn:

a) They are insane.

or

b) They WANT to strengthen terrorism/communism so that they can have an
orwellian enemy to distract their electorate from domestic issues.

You are mistaken, yet again.

I'm not in "love" with terrorists. Terrorism is the RESULT of Bush's illegal
invasion. It was the INEVITABLE result of illegally invading a country and
attempting to IMPOSE YOUR OWN CULTURE UPON THE SUBJUGATED POPULATION. They
WILL fight back! And they will use the tools available to them.

Deaths? Every death creates more misery, more anger, more terrorists. The
more you kill, the stronger your enemy gets. You won't kill them all, and
if you try, you'll demoralise your troops so badly, they'll start shooting
their commanders.

After Saigon fell the Americunts sure weren't there. They were all
desperatly clinging onto the last helicopter out trying to save their
sorry whipped asses.
All the american troops had left 2 years earlier
After poisoning the country and dropping a shitload of bombs and jellied
gasoline on the people, the USA couldn't win against the Vietnamese people.
LOL. BY Vietnamese people, you mean a brutal communist regime who could
afford to use their people as cannon-fodder
Excuse me, but the USA went village to village wiping out civilians.
millions were murdered by the USA...
Only in your imagination
Post by Gregory Shearman
They poisoned their land, they forced them to live underground to avoid the
carpet bombing...
Little kids set on fire by napalm....
Little kids killed by nice communists
Post by Gregory Shearman
Why were the USA doing this??
To defeat "communism"
A noble cause.
Post by Gregory Shearman
Let's now move to Iraq...
Why are the USA doing the same thing to Iraq???
To defeat "terrorism"
Little kids with their arms blown off by US bombs...
Oddly, more people nowdays are being killed by the nice "resistance"
Post by Gregory Shearman

Heh, the chickenshit took two years to get in there after the americans
left. Some fighter
They'd been fighting the colonials since 1954... they were obviously in
it for the long haul. The USA cut and ran when the going got tough.
LIke I said earlier, a political failure, not a military one
A military failure. You cannot use conventional forces against a guerilla
force. You will ALWAYS lose.
No, not a military failure. Even the North Vietnamese admitted the US
military would have stomped them had the US forces not been subject to
so many stupid political decisions.

A political loss, even the north vietnamese admit they got their arses
kicked on the battlefield
That's why they didn't choose to fight on the "battlefield".
Yes they did, and often. Just look at Tet
The result???
The USA lost the war in Vietnam.
Yes, a political loss. Had the US politcians listened to their
military, they would have crushed the communists

The same thing has happened in Iraq. You don't fight the most powerful
nation on earth by lining up in front of their guns... you suck them in
and you harry them and sap their strength. You keep at them and you get
them attacking the very people they SAY they are trying to SAVE... this
provides no end of new recruits to your guerilla army.
Seems to me a lot of the deaths are being done by those nice
"resistance" terrorists you are so in love with
You are mistaken, yet again.
I'm not in "love" with terrorists. Terrorism is the RESULT of Bush's illegal
invasion. It was the INEVITABLE result of illegally invading a country and
attempting to IMPOSE YOUR OWN CULTURE UPON THE SUBJUGATED POPULATION. They
WILL fight back!
Then why are they blowing up their own people, hmmm?
Post by Gregory Shearman
Deaths? Every death creates more misery, more anger, more terrorists. The
more you kill, the stronger your enemy gets. You won't kill them all, and
if you try, you'll demoralise your troops so badly, they'll start shooting
their commanders.

Gregory.

Ever see the old newsreel films of Americunts desperatly clinging onto
helicopters leaving the roof of the besieged Americunt embassy in
Saigon as they tried to escape with their butts intact?
You are aware that the communists took *two years* to capture Saigon
after the last American troops left, aren't you? Wow, the americans
weren't even there and they still took two years!

All the american troops had left 2 years earlier
chickened out and ran leaving the people they were supposedly protecting

Americunts have a strange way of looking at
winning..Vietnam..Mogadishu..Iraq...
vietnam = never lost on the battlfield
mogadishu = small number of US soldiers kick muslim ass
Iraq = crushed saddam's regime in weeks, put in a democratic system.
it's called winning
It's called dumb Americunts taking it up the butt.

As usual in all other things, the Yanks are only half as good as
the rest of
the world when it comes to electricity.
Whereas the civilised world (and much of the 3rd-world even)
manages to produce 240volt city power, those useless pissant
americans can only eke out
a pitiful 120volts.
You think we our home don't have 240 sockets? Your ignorance, and
blatant stupidity, is noted.
**Only when configured as multiphase, you sad excuse for a human.
Here in the civilised world, we have 415 Volts available, when we use
multiphase power.
It's a meaningless discussison, you moron. In terms of power used,
it's the same. You have twice the voltage, but use half as much
current.
And yet they're still the world's most powerful country. Kinda makes
you look rather stupid

As usual in all other things, the Yanks are only half as good as
the rest of
the world when it comes to electricity.
Whereas the civilised world (and much of the 3rd-world even)
manages to produce 240volt city power, those useless pissant

a pitiful 120volts.
You think we our home don't have 240 sockets? Your ignorance, and
blatant stupidity, is noted.

Here in the civilised world, we have 415 Volts available, when we use

**There's the rub. You idiots have MAJOR problems with Voltage drop (due to

1,500 Watts. In reality, barely 1,00 Watts is available from typical US

And, of course, with 415VAC available, we can consume vast amounts of energy

No, I mean most American households have a fuse box that allows a 15 or
20 amp load through the circuit. A double poll circuit is one with two
15 amp circuits running parallel produce 30 amps for heavy loads for,
say, electric dryers. I ask this question because you made a comment
about thinner wires, and thin wires would require less amps, as higher
amps would be a fire hazard. This would mean that Yurp tools, lights and
appliances draw less current, therefor less powerful, therefor run
longer to complete basic tasks, therefor putting a bigger load on your
coal burning power plants, and being less efficient and not as long
lasting as there American counterparts.

It really is a simple question.

No problem.

Heat is a function of current and resistance.

European voltage is higher than American, therefore for a given load
wattage the current is lower. The resistance of the cables may then be
correspondingly higher while still keeping the heating effect within
accepted parameters. So an European cable carrying a given power will
be thinner than an American cable carrying the same power while the
heat losses would be the same.

Then please explain to me how your wattage is the same but yet your
wires are transferring less heat. Take your time.
How think is your wire?
You really don't have a clue. Stay away from electricity, you could
cause some damage.
If I had a clue how thick your wire is I wouldn't have asked you. But I
don't have a clue how thick your wire is, so I'm asking you. Do you have
a clue how thick your wire is?
I know how thick you are.

OK, so lets see....

You don't know how thick your wire is, I assume you don't know how thick
our wire is, but somehow you know ours if thicker. You don't know the
amp ratings of your fuse panel and switches, but somehow you think you
know something about the American electrical grid and how yours is more
efficient. This tells us you're yapping away about something you know so
little about - AGAIN.

The formula is volts x amps = watts.

So a 15 amp appliance running on 120 volts equals 1800 watts. By

equals power. Power equals energy. Energy expels heat. So, you either

An Americunt appliance running at the same wattage as an European one

Since for the same wattage the Americunt appliance is taking double

current. The lower the current, the less the heat. So as European

wires to supply them.

This is not a matter of opinion, it is a matter of scientific fact.

But then you Americunts have funny ideas about science, with your

I shall tell you again:

The heating effect in an electrical cable is determined by the current

You can't even read, dumbass.

I said European appliances draw less current for the same wattage of

Wattage is power. So European appliances draw less current while

Which is why they do not need cables as thick as Americunt ones.

You must mean "Americunt", but anyway, that's right - the Type G plug.
That means your wire are rated about the same as ours even though your
buddy insists that they are running much less amps. So, again, with your
help, your buddy looks like a complete and total dipshit. However, in
his defense I will add that your whole system is bullshit as one can't
take one appliance and plug it in anywhere in the house as you have
different sockets for different rooms. For example, if my family is
pressed on time I can plug my shaver anywhere in the house, whereas you
have to wait for the women to leave the bathroom (and we all know what
that's like) before you have plug your shaver in.

Furthermore, correct me if I'm wrong, you have different outlets with
different amp fuses, however, the outlets that are made for the type "G"
plugs are all rated for 13 amps. That means the wire thickness is about
the same as ours. Correct?

That means your wire are rated about the same as ours even though your
buddy insists that they are running much less amps. So, again, with your
help, your buddy looks like a complete and total dipshit. However, in his
defense I will add that your whole system is bullshit as one can't take
one appliance and plug it in anywhere in the house as you have different
sockets for different rooms.
No we don't.
Then explain this.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/13-amp_plug

All plugs with the exception of some plug top power supply units are
fused. This is in addition to the fuses or circuit breakers in consumer
units/distribution boards.

Prior to the introduction of the 13 amp plug the BS546 2 A, 5 A and 15 A
plugs were used. With this system the only fuses were in the consumer
unit. 15 A sockets were generally given a dedicated 15 A circuit. 5 A
sockets might be on a 15 A circuit with multiple sockets or on a
dedicated 5 A circuit. 2 A sockets were generally connected to the
lighting circuit which was fused at 5 A. Adaptors were available from 15
A down to 5 A and from 5 A down to 2 A so in practice it was quite
possible for an appliance with the smallest size of flex to be protected
only by a 15 A fuse.

When the practice of using 30 A ring circuits was introduced (to save
copper whilst also allowing more flexibility) it was considered unsafe
to allow appliance flexes to be connected to such a high rated circuit
with no further protection. Due to this the plug/socket combination had
to provide the fuse. It was decided to place the fuse in the plug and in
order to make sure people only used fused plugs to connect to the new
circuits a new plug type was required: the BS 1363 13 A plug.

Putting the fuse in the plug also allows a range of ratings to be fitted
providing superior protection for smaller flexes. This is especially
useful for long small flexes or for extension leads that are not rated
at the full 13A. Fuses for fittings to BS 1363 must conform to BS 1362.
This specification describes a sand-filled ceramic bodied fuse, 1" (25.4
mm) in length and 1/4" (6.35 mm) in diameter.

* 3 A fuses (colour-coded red) are intended mainly for small load
(750 W max.) appliances such as radios and desk lamps.
* 5 A fuses (black, but so are other less common ratings) are for
medium load (1250 W max.) appliances such as desktop computers and TV sets.
* 13 A fuses (colour-coded brown) are for heavy load (3250 W max.)
appliances such as irons and electrical heaters.
* Ratings of 1, 2, 7 and 10 amperes are available and are all
coloured black, but are rare (1 A is extremely rare).

The fuses are mechanically compatible, but inserting a fuse too weak for
the appliance will likely cause the fuse to blow prematurely while using
too strong a fuse will degrade safety as the fuse will blow less quickly
or in extreme cases not at all in the event of a fault. Having said
that, most other systems do not bother with using smaller fuses to
protect the smaller flex sizes and it doesn't seem to be a problem in
practice.

Rewirable BS 1363 plugs are always sold fitted with a fuse, usually 13
A. This fuse must be changed if fitting the plug to an appliance which
requires a fuse with a smaller rating. Plugs with smaller fuse sizes
already fitted are sold but are not as common. As a result, before
factory-fitted plugs became the norm it was common to have a lot of
spare 13 A fuses around that had been removed from newly purchased plugs.

My understanding is the standard Brit sockets are 15 amp Type M. Is that
true?
They're 13 amp, you've been made to look a cunt in this thread, innit.
Correct?
Try learning a little electrical theory. It will save you a lot of
grief.

It all flows from the theory, you know.

Although I do understand you Americunts are not very good at the
learning business.

Not unless your asses are kicked first.

No, it is not me who insists.

It is the basic laws of electricity which insist and which you have
shown you do not understand.

If, for a given wattage, the voltage rises, the current must fall.

No, you are not running on half the power. You are running on half the
voltage.
And because European voltage is higher, we need thinner cables to
carry the same amount of power.
Much more efficient.
Before you go on babbling, tell me your average amperage going to your
sockets.
That would depend on the load plugged into the socket.
But European sockets carry less current for a given load than
Americunt sockets do.

power. Moreover, like the rest of the civilised world, we don't approve of
state-sanctioned murder. We're also signatories to teh Geneva Convention.
Perhaps you Limeys don't sentence Limeys to death, but your government
murders literally millions of people. For example, you're allied with
the Jew-S-A against the good folks of Iraq, murdering millions of good
Iraqis. And your treatments of prisoners in Iraq is a clear violation
of the Geneva Convention. Limey soldiers are regularly caught raping
Iraqi men, women, and children. Limey soldiers urinate on Iraqi
prisoners with their tiny Limey units.

What is the source of your electricity? I doubt it's all from wind
turbines in the UK. Most likely you steal coal from other countries or
you use dangerous nuclear power or you murder the earth by building
hydroelectric dams.

If you're not Limey but Aussie, note the xenophobic, racist hate crimes
by white Aussies against good Muslims, for example the beach incident.

If you're a New Zealander, I don't have any dirt on you but you're
probably not completely innocent.

I doubt you're a Canuck because they probably use the same type of
electricity as the Yanks.

As a consequence of american under-performance in this area, it

It is encouraging, however, to note that some american states,

Holy arse. I've seen some funny attempts at trolling which play on the
general ignorance of the typical Britisher, but even your thickest chav

you, not the voltage).

On second thoughts, no, no it's a perfectly good troll. An entire
