Isn't freedom wonderful? In a America a died in the wool
Democrat/Communist can register as a Republican.
Why does any U.S. of A. citizen have to 'Register' one way or the other??
Can't a citizen just rock up on polling day and put a '1' in the box
next to whomever they wanted to vote for??
That is the world we strived for and failed to achieve. So far! It
ain't over yet.
It amazes me that you actually register to vote in America, nothing to
do with registering as a democrat or Republican.
???????? We have to 'enrol' to vote in Oz
Not every time there is an election, I don't believe the US/states has a
continuously-updated permanent database
You’d be wrong. I registered to vote (Republican, actually) when I moved to
my current state in 2004. Still registered, because still at same address.
They’ve moved the damn polling station three times, it’s almost as if
someone doesn’t want people to vote in my area. Oh. Wait. In the four major
elections since I moved here (2004, 2008, 2012, 2016) this precinct has never
voted under 76% Democratic. Yeah. Someone wants to make it difficult to vote
I use early voting, so the whereabouts of the polling station is of academic
interest to me, but it’s damn clear that there’s been shenanigans. Hmm.
Who’s in charge of the county electoral office? Sad to say, while my
precinct may be heavily Dem, the county as a whole put in a lot of Reps.
Including at the electoral office. The shenanigans are Rep shenanigans.
Ineffective Rep shenanigans which cause a lot of irritation. I suspect that
the county will go not just blue, but deep, deep, _deep_ blue this year. Lots
of Rep pols are gonna be unemployed. Including, I suspect, at the electoral
office. There’s gonna be _Dem_ shenanigans soon, and it won’t be pretty.
The neighboring two counties are the largest and second largest in the state,
by size and population; we’re fourth largest. I suspect that the tri-county
area will be deep blue, and lots of smaller counties will get swamped, so the
Republican Party can probably kiss this state buh-bye. And once in, the Dems
will do onto us as we have been doing onto them for two decades, so this
state in’t going red again for a _long_ time. As it is two local
Congressional districts have Dems running without opposition, and two more
have Dems running against Reps who have no chance of winning. It’s gonna be
bloody... and we can thank the orange buffoon for upsetting the applecart.
Thanks _ever_ so much, Donnie.

and that is the same as the
'registration' system (to vote) of the US as far as I can discern. There
is however the problem in the US of voter suppression and that has been
a major problem for decades.
Surely this must be

impediment for people to get out and vote.
Makes our AEC and their electoral role of eligible voters, even with
its' problems, look like a gold standard.
Yep, by comparison. Makes life easy for voters and those who have to
manage the election process within Oz.
