fkn megalomaniacal prick! He's just loving being in total control of
Victoria, telling us what we can and can't do. what does he think he's
doing by destorying ppls live and the State? eliminating the virus? not
gonna happen. if NSW had the level of restrictions that we have they'd
be in lockup too, but they're not, and they're coping cos they have
competent contact tracing. fk him! I hate the prick!

what he could do is have a more realistic and practical approach.  if

Obviously, if we were under Victorian restrictions we'd be in lock-down.
If WA were under Victorian restrictions they'd be in lock-down, if SA
were under Victorian restrictions they'd be in lock-down etc etc.

WA has no local transmission for 5 months. Restrictions are almost gone.

What scenario do you see unfolding here? ALP maybe would be foolish to
dump him; show an "admission" they stuffed up.

But I agree, he should resign (and then get offered a safe ALP Senate
spot or safe seat, as usual).

Seems to me Dan is on a power trip, and has 2 years to go before he
fronts the population of Victoria. You only need to see how he answers
questions at the daily media shemozzle.

Apparently, his treasurer is to announce a massive spend up in the
forthcoming budget.... (There's the candy under the nose...) I'd be
curious to see where the funding for this spending is coming from. It
better *not* be from China's "belt and road".

First xeno says "They were deleted. Noddy deleted them".
Then he was asked to show the threads the deleted posts were in.
"I know where the threads are. The posts are no longer there." he said.
So show us the threads, we asked. This is where he goes real quiet..
Then we laughed at the liar who snookered himself with his own lies
"I have redressed it and it's no longer an issue. Simple as that."

He's got a job to do and he's doing it. He's not stupid so knows what
he's doing is not a winner. He's damned if he does and he damned if he
doesn't - you've only got to look at the comments here to realise that
damnation shown against him, viz, 'power trip', 'meglomaniacal prick',
'we're paying the price', 'changing the rules to suit' etc.

Most voters understand the shit position he's in AND that the rest of
society is in. It's his government's job to try to get this thing back
into it's box and that is regardless of previous mistakes.

We're in a sodding pandemic. This MAJOR health emergency trumps
personal petulance and the desire of those who want to get out for a soy
latte. It also trumps whinges from the general public because they
think he's not doing the sort of perfect job we'd like to see for this
situation. 'Unprecedented' really does apply. No politician of any
political persuasion anywhere in the country has managed to do a perfect
job. We're stuck with what we've got and public whinging is just a
distraction. There is still a huge job to be done.

prick', 'we're paying the price', 'changing the rules to suit' etc.
Most voters understand the shit position he's in AND that the rest of
society is in.  It's his government's job to try to get this thing
back into it's box and that is regardless of previous mistakes.
We're in a sodding pandemic.  This MAJOR health emergency trumps
personal petulance and the desire of those who want to get out for a
soy latte.  It also trumps whinges from the general public because
they think he's not doing the sort of perfect job we'd like to see for
this situation.  'Unprecedented' really does apply.  No politician of
any political persuasion anywhere in the country has managed to do a
perfect job.  We're stuck with what we've got and public whinging is
just a distraction.  There is still a huge job to be done.
justified criticism is not whinging

Seems to me Dan is on a power trip, and has 2 years to go before he
fronts the population of Victoria. You only need to see how he answers
questions at the daily media shemozzle.

Very common sense points there Fran - all of them. It's such a pity some
posters here seem lacking in common sense.

fkn megalomaniacal prick! He's just loving being in total control of
Victoria, telling us what we can and can't do. what does he think
he's doing by destorying ppls live and the State? eliminating the
virus? not gonna happen. if NSW had the level of restrictions that we
have they'd be in lockup too, but they're not, and they're coping cos
they have competent contact tracing. fk him! I hate the prick!
Well, you know what has to be done at the next election!
I know but it seems many voters don't or they would never have voted him in.

The funny thing is - Newspoll is Liberal biased. If they can't find
people that dislike Andrews, they must be doing something wrong - or,
shock, horror, their poll reflects reality *on the ground*.

They don't like the result
The funny thing is - Newspoll is Liberal biased. If they can't find
people that dislike Andrews, they must be doing something wrong -
or, shock, horror, their poll reflects reality *on the ground*.
I specifically said that I got it from The W/E Australian to try and
allay that bias comment.
Regardless of your source, everything I've read is that voters are
happy with his performance and he's got a high level of support.  I've
got friends in Vic who tell me he's fine.
Must be rabid Labor voters.
Nope. Just well informed, educated people who have hobbies.

I live 53km from Melb so in a regional area and I haven't spoken to a
single person in the last few weeks who supports him, most would be
ecstatic if he dropped dead.
We see that sort of comment here often too. I usually end up killfiling
those sorts of people fairly quickly as they offer little and waste band
width.

People I know who live in Melb are even more against him since they are
severely affected by Andrews over the top restrictions.

being the fault of Bill Gates or 5G or it's all a hoax dont' support
him.  I'd have to say that just watching from afar, that Liberal
leader is far more unimpressive - complete whiner.
That is a problem but not a significant one at the moment since the next
Vic State election is more than 2yrs away

Wonder if he wanted Victoria to go the Swedish minimal restriction path?

The pandemic is just one of many reasons Andrews is on the nose
especially around here (Bacchus Marsh), dumping contaminated soil at a
nearby coal mine and a proposed installation of ugly overhead high
tension power lines near the town are another 2 issues why he is hated.
He is also hell bent on destroying small business and there are many
examples including the solar industry which was decimated by his ill
thought out failed rebate scheme.
He wiped out 260 small cleaning contractors which mostly have non union
members so he could hand the contracts to large contractors whose
employees are union members simply to boost Labors base and income.

One perfect example of over the top rules is how they apply to where one

that have had many cases.

fkn megalomaniacal prick! He's just loving being in total
control of
Victoria, telling us what we can and can't do. what does
he think
he's doing by destorying ppls live and the State?
eliminating the
virus? not gonna happen. if NSW had the level of
restrictions
that we
have they'd be in lockup too, but they're not, and
they're coping
cos
they have competent contact tracing. fk him! I hate the prick!
Well, you know what has to be done at the next election!
I know but it seems many voters don't or they would never have
voted him in.
Interestingly the majority of Victorians think he's doing an OK job
from the last polls. May change after the inquiry results.
nope. it was the question they asked that got that result
It was the level of satisfaction,
you don't live here. you wouldn't have a clue what most ppl think.
Post by Dechucka
62% were satisfied. ALP ahead 2PP. From Newspoll in the Weekend
Australian
yeah 2,0698 voters or 0.05% of voters
Typical poll sample size. What's the problem?
They don't like the result
The funny thing is - Newspoll is Liberal biased. If they can't
find people that dislike Andrews, they must be doing something
wrong - or, shock, horror, their poll reflects reality *on the
ground*.
I specifically said that I got it from The W/E Australian to try
and allay that bias comment.
Regardless of your source, everything I've read is that voters are
happy with his performance and he's got a high level of support.
I've got friends in Vic who tell me he's fine.
Must be rabid Labor voters.
Nope.  Just well informed, educated people who have hobbies.
LOL.
I find it bizarre that anyone who aren't Labor party members or union
delegates could support him.
You're findings of 'bizarre' are out of step with over 60% of Victorians
who think he's doing a good job.
Post by Daryl
BTW for most of my 68yrs I have voted Labor, took Andrews to change my
mind, he is that bad.
My 71yr old sister in law thinks he is a disaster despite her youngest
son being a CFMEU organizer who she usually supports.
Irrelevant to what the majority of Victorians think about him. His poll
figures are consistent.
Post by Daryl
Post by Daryl
I live 53km from Melb so in a regional area and I haven't spoken to a
single person in the last few weeks who supports him, most would be
ecstatic if he dropped dead.
We see that sort of comment here often too.  I usually end up
killfiling those sorts of people fairly quickly as they offer little
and waste band width.
So he's hated in Bacchus Marsh..... Over 60% of Victorians think he's
doing a decent job in the pandemic.

"over the top"?????  The figures relating to Covid-19 cases in
Victoria are showing that what the Vic govt is working.
One perfect example of over the top rules is how they apply to where one
of my sisters lives, the town of Benalla has not had a single case of
covid 19 since day one yet they are subjected to the same rules as areas
that have had many cases.
So she'd know that the figures relating to Covid-19 cases in
Victoria are showing that what the Vic govt is doing is working.

being the fault of Bill Gates or 5G or it's all a hoax dont' support

That is a problem but not a significant one at the moment since the
next Vic State election is more than 2yrs away

sounds like they polled only Labor party members.

**Pretty much everyone has fucked up, from the PM down. Andrews' fuckup
cost a lot of lives. And yeah, Victorian contact tracing has been pretty
ordinary. However, we MUST aim for elimination. That is the only
possible way to go. Anything else will result in a 'see-sawing' economy.
It's not that difficult. Lockdown for a few weeks and stick ANYONE
entering the country into compulsory isolation for 2 weeks. The vaccine
is not going to happen anytime soon and is unlikely to be better than
50% efficient at preventing people from catching COVID-19 anyway. Worse,
it is probable that we will all need to be vaccinated 3 ~ 4 times per year.

That all said, Andrews has been performing well until yesterday. He
should have admitted fault.

**There are no vaccines available for the common cold, Ebola, AIDS and
many, many other diseases. Relying on the development of an effective
vaccine against COVID-19 is dumb. Even if a vaccine (or vaccines) is
developed, it is highly likely that the vaccine may, at best, reach 65%
efficiency (same as the 'flu vaccine). 65% is far from enough to
eliminate COVID-19 as a risk to our society. But wait: It gets worse.
Reports of some who have contacted COVID-19 multiple times are already
in. It would seem that antibodies to COVID-19 last around 4 months. That
means we will all have to have a shot 3 ~ 4 times every year. Forever.
Fuck that. Let's eliminate COVID-19 and EVERY SINGLE person entering
Australia goes straight into 2 weeks quarantine.

As long as the virus exists, you cannot completely control it. Not

Walking around with your head up your arse thinking we can control this
by locking people up is even dumber.

Fucking rubbish :)
Go back to 1960 and the Influenza death rate in this country was three
times higher than what it is today, with the only significant difference
between then and now is the existence of a vaccine to guard against
particular strains. But it's more than just prevention. A vital part of
the role of vaccines is not just in stopping people from catching a
particular illness, but in lessening the effects of it if they *are*
unfortunate enough to catch it.
This is a key point that you're overlooking.
Post by Trevor Wilson
But wait: It gets worse.
It clearly does for you, but then you tend to live in the extremes....
Post by Trevor Wilson
Reports of some who have contacted COVID-19 multiple times are already

Are they? What, all 6 of them? :)
Post by Trevor Wilson
It would seem that antibodies to COVID-19 last around 4 months.
It would seem that in *some* people the antibody life span can be
measured in months. In fact, tests have shown that on average 10% of
patients tested show no trace of Antibody IgG within months. What does
this mean? It means that like *many* other illnesses and treatments, the
effects are largely dependent on the individual.
What it *also* means is that there is scope there for scientific
breakthough.
Post by Trevor Wilson
That means we will all have to have a shot 3 ~ 4 times every year.
So what? Even if it comes to that, would you rather risk catching this
cunt of a thing and dying than having a jab every quarter?
Except it takes longer than that to *develop* a vaccine. 9 months of
Covid so far and no vaccine yet. Looks like the standard 12-18 month
vaccine development timeframe still holds true so making a *new* vaccine
4 times a year is just a fantasy.
For fuck's sake......
Post by Trevor Wilson
Forever.
Bullshit forever.
You have *no idea* what the future holds Trevor. Regardless of what you
tell yourself.
Neither do you Noddy. Trev, like everyone else, is working with *current
knowledge* of the facts. Facts, on the other hand, are anathema to you.
Post by Trevor Wilson
Fuck that. Let's eliminate COVID-19 and EVERY SINGLE person entering

Yeah, I don't think so.

What's more likely is that once a vaccine is available you'll get an
initial shot followed by a booster a few months later, and then an
annual shot just like you do with the Flu vaccine now.

What people need to get their heads around is that it is highly unlikely
that there will ever be a vaccine that gives you lifetime immunity.

The yearly 'flu shot is roughly 65% efficacious. IOW: Out of every
100 people given their yearly 'flu shot, 35 will catch the 'flu anyway.
Totally wrong, a completely illogical jump
**Then cite the allegedly correct figures.
Just because a vaccine is only 65% effective does NOT mean the other 35%
will catch it. Hey not every non-vaccinated person gets it

**Correct. I was speaking simplistically. However, the facts are simple
enough: Unless the vaccine is 100% efficacious, SOME people will catch
that particular disease, unless other measures (isolation) are taken.
Obviously, if people are not exposed to a particular disease, they won't
catch it.

People still catch measles, whooping cough etc. Rampant in other places

Could you then show how it is that *percentage effectiveness* statistic
is derived?

Norman Swan on the Corona Cast has said this about the flu vaccine. Not
sure how they derive the figure

Much more useful if we can see the statistical means and measures used
to determine such things. It is all meaningless numbers otherwise.

fkn megalomaniacal prick!
**Pretty much everyone has fucked up, from the PM down. Andrews'
fuckup cost a lot of lives. And yeah, Victorian contact tracing has
been pretty ordinary. However, we MUST aim for elimination. That is
the only possible way to go.
There is no elimination without an effective vaccine Trev. New Zealand
has taught everyone that.
Vaccines do not and cannot eliminate a virus. A vaccine merely reduces
your chances of catching the virus. It does not 100% prevent you from
catching it. At best, it will *reduce* the effect the virus has on you
if you do catch it. All a vaccine does is *prime* the immune system to
recognise a virus so it knows how to deal with it.

Anything else will result in a 'see-sawing' economy.
Get used to it, because that's where we're heading.
That is where we will head if iso measures are relaxed too much.

It's not that difficult. Lockdown for a few weeks and stick ANYONE
entering the country into compulsory isolation for 2 weeks. The
vaccine is not going to happen anytime soon and is unlikely to be
better than 50% efficient at preventing people from catching COVID-19
anyway.
And how the fuck would you know this? :)
Get your head out of Murdoch media and get your information from a
*variety* of sources - preferably those with more of a reputation for
honesty. A vaccine has *never been a cure*. All it does is prime the
immune system to recognise a virus so it knows how to deal with it. The
rest depends entirely on the immune system itself being 100% efficient.
Sadly for most people, especially the elderly and the
immuno-compromised, that isn't the case. Any doctor will tell you that
the current influenza vaccine will not 100% prevent you from getting the
virus but they do say that if you do catch it the effects of the virus
will be lessened.

Worse, it is probable that we will all need to be vaccinated 3 ~ 4 times per year.
Yeah, I don't think so.
Well, as is usual, you are wrong. A normal flu vaccine is good for one
year/season. After that, the next year/season's virus will have
sufficiently mutated so that the previous vaccine isn't sufficient to
trigger a recognition response by the immune system thus a new vaccine
needs to be created. With influenza, that was an *annual* cycle. With
Covid, it looks very much like the viral mutation occurs at a much
faster rate since people are becoming *reinfected* with Covid after
having caught it only a few months before. That bodes ill for the
effectiveness of any Covid vaccine lasting more than 3-5 months. After
all, the vaccine itself *does not kill the virus*. All it does is prime
your own immune system to *recognise* a virus cell so it can attack and
kill it. If the virus mutates too quickly, a constant updating of virus
vaccines will be required and you will need to be revaccinated several
times a year. Given that, currently, a vaccine takes, on average, 12-18
months to work up, this is going to be very problematic.
Post by Noddy
What's more likely is that once a vaccine is available you'll get an
initial shot followed by a booster a few months later, and then an
annual shot just like you do with the Flu vaccine now.
Tell that to the people who are being *reinfected* with the Covid virus
3-5 months after they have *recovered* from a bout of the infection.
Post by Noddy
What people need to get their heads around is that it is highly unlikely
that there will ever be a vaccine that gives you lifetime immunity.
Nobody is saying that about the influenza virus and, more importantly,
no one is saying that about Covid. Lifetime immunity to influenza simply
doesn't exist simply because of the manner and speed in which the virus
mutates. That's why there has never been a vaccine for the common cold.
