Two food vans belonging to a Surry Hills Indian restaurant have been
destroyed by fire less than a fortnight after a blaze gutted a neighbouring
eatery.
Police and fire crews found the vans, belonging to Maya Da Dhaba on
Cleveland Street, well alight at 2.30am today.
They were able to extinguish the fires quickly but both vans were destroyed.
Police said it was believed the vans were deliberately set alight and they
are now looking at links between this fire and a blaze at another Indian
restaurant The Copper Tiffin on July 5.
The Copper Tiffin is two doors down from the Maya Da Dhaba.
It is believed that restaurant was also victim of an arson attack in which
four people living in the unit above were lucky to escape unharmed.
On that occasion two people were seen running from the restaurant as fire
engulfed the building.
In the days before the Copper Tiffin was set alight, the restaurant had
received a bomb threat.
